My cake sticks to my nonstick pan.

I have unwillingly and unhappily started a trend in my baking.

Behold, the DISASTER CAKES, deemed as such due to their uncanny resemblance to the aftermath of natural disasters.

I don't actually have any pictures because they are REALLY embarrassing. Let me try to explain them, however.

EARTHQUAKE CAKE

This lovely strawberry cake with strawberry frosting was messed up because I thought, "Well, I don't HAVE to have three eggs, right?" WRONG. Apparently eggs function as the glue for a cake and without it, it falls apart at the drop of a hat. My sorry attempt to frost this cake became incredibly frustrating and I ended up just plopping all of the remaining frosting on top.

MUDSLIDE CAKE

This was a chocolate-chocolate cake...both cake and frosting were chocolate. I was in a hurry to get it frosted and started when it was still warm. However, apparently frosting melts really well...like, really well. The top layer kept sliding off the bottom layer and although I tried really hard to freeze it in order to solidify it, it still kept sliding until it was solidified. Crookedly, of course.

TORNADO CAKE

It was supposed to be a white cake with cream cheese frosting for a potluck we were having at work at my last job. I did not use any cooking spray and apparently the pans, which claim to be made of nonstick material, are wearing out or something. I don't know. Anyway, I have just replicated the tornado cake. Only parts are damaged, other parts the same. I'd put it at maybe an F1...the top layer is peeled off in some areas and chunks at the edge are broken off completely. The white cake was more of an F2...it was in REALLY bad shape. So we ate it. I brought some lemon wedges instead.

I am perturbed by this sticky nonstick situation. Today, it is our friend Jake Winchester's 24th birthday. I was making him a yellow cake with white frosting. I might still be able to make it work...

We'll see.

  1. hey, that's how you learn. :)

As for the non-stick pan, even with those, it's a good idea to spray and coat with flour for cakes. I never trust those non-stick things.

If you make a mistake, just turn it into something else and say you intended it that way. The recipients will never know ;)
